Our family has been Florida's roofing experts for almost 90 years. Bob Rentz, the family patriarch, started Rentz Roofing in 1936, and in 1950, Bob's son-in-law, Morris Swope, changed the name to Tampa Roofing Company. Keith Swope, who has worked full-time for the company in the same Tampa, FL location since 1970, is Tampa Roofing Company's current vice President and has previously served as President of the industry's state trade association, the FSRA.
Brian Swope, Bob's great-grandson, is the current Tampa Roofing Company President and led Tampa Roofing Company from 1985 to 2015. Brian is also the current president of the FRSA and has represented the roofing industry on the FL building commission since 2012. Our family has become synonymous with excellence in roofing, and we look forward to serving you.

We want to make sure that you are happy with the work before we ask you for the complete payment.
If you purchase an extremely expensive roof, we may have to ask for weekly draws, but most residential roofs can be completed in less than a week.

There are some definite advantages of using metal products over asphalt shingles.
The most important is wind uplift.
Asphalt shingles may start with a 90 to 120 MPH rating, however once the oils in the asphalt start to dry out, the shingles no longer have the same rating.
Most asphalt shingles only carry a 10 year rating on their shingles.
Some of the insurance companies are asking people to replace their shingles when the wind rating is no good, or pay a higher rating on the insurance.
The next factor a lot of people appreciate about metal is that some metal systems have many colors available in "cool" colors.

At Tampa Roofing and the original Rentz Roofing, we have seen many changes in the old hot asphalt built up roofing systems, where the system is done in multi layers, and the system is built up on the roofing surface.
Over the years the main roofing felts have changed from the original rag felts that were made from cotton rags, to asbestos felts, back to rag felts that were really made with wood pulp fillers, to fiberglass felts, to the current composition of fiberglass and polyester roofing felts.

One of the first major systems that went down was a TAMKO modified system that we installed on the Delta Airlines terminal in Tampa.
This was a black roof that went down both terminal sides, and also covered the center which was higher and had a water cooled air conditioning system on it that kept 2 inches of water on at all times.
They purchased a 10 year modified roofing system because they were planning on remodeling the terminal and wanted a cheap roof.
They understood that the roof probably would not last the full 10 years because it was a roof over application that we installed over an asbestos roof.
