After working for 16 yrs at American Motors and doing roofing part time, Herbert J Smet (H.J.) decided he wanted to be his own boss and go into the roofing business full time. So in 1971 after working out of his car with one ladder and putting shingles in the back seat, he bought a truck and started H.J. Smet & Son Roofing. At the time he would take his son Scott with him to keep him company and to show him the skills of the trade.
The company was built on quality work and good, honest customer service. Business grew over the years adding employees, and trucks. Scott joined the company full-time in 1984 and eventually bought the company from his dad in 2003 to start the 2nd generation of ownership. As the business continued to grow they expanded to cover the entire exterior of your home with the addition of gutters, siding, window, doors and carpentry work.
This allowed the customer to have one place to go for all their exterior remodeling needs. In 2007 they changed the name to H.J Smet & Son Construction to cover the expanded services.
