Jim Ragsdale, the principal of RE/COR Inc., co-owned and operated one of the largest and most respected roofing companies in the Denver Metro Area from 1972 to 1990 with branch offices in Pocatello, Idaho; Casper, Wyoming; and Houston, Texas.
While operating the roofing company, several roofing manufacturers consulted Jim Ragsdale routinely for his expertise and opinions in reviewing installation manuals and testing roofing products.
Established in 1990, RE/COR Inc. specialized in re-roofing, high-end custom new construction, and roof consulting.
Concrete roof tile is made of sand, cement, and water.
The exact materials vary somewhat with each manufacturer but basically contain Portland cement, blended hydraulic cements and fly ash, sand, and other aggregates.
The products from most manufacturers look very similar in size and shapes and colors.
There are several manufacturers of concrete tile.
Low Profile concrete roofing tile has small curves when viewed from its butt that have a rise to width ratio equal to 1:5 or less.
High Profile concrete tile has larger curves when viewed from its butt that have a rise to width ratio greater than 1:5.
However, just asking for bids without any directions guarantees that comparing the proposals will be difficult or impossible.
The proposals will be like comparing apples to oranges or worse.
Properly writing the Request For Proposal (RFP) puts the Property Owner in control rather than the Roofing Contractor.
This is very important to keep you in charge of all aspects of the Roof Installation as it should be, after all it is your roof.
This is something a Property Owner can do themselves, but it does take a lot of time and thought to properly write a RFP, asking the right questions, properly detailing the scope of the job, knowing what information to include in the RFP to get the desired results, etc.
Roofing Guidelines web pages contain important information about roofing materials and accessories and their installation.
Roofing Code Information web pages alert Roofing Contractors and Building Inspectors to important information and issues that have to do with the roofing industry.
