Loosen the adhesive under the five tabs in the second row above the damaged "3-tab" shingle; it's end seams are lined-up 6 or 12 inches off to one side of the damaged one.
Now first loosen the exposed nails by sliding your flat-pry-bar under the shingle and working around the nail shaft (shank).
Carefully lift each tab about 45 to 60 degrees -- to not crack or break them (old shingles become quite brittle); you will see the nails that (also) pierce and hold the top edge of the damaged shingle.
