Sloped roofs are also known as "water-shedding" roofs.
This is because their waterproofing is derived by the slope of the roof.
Sloped roofs are considered waterproof as long as the water is moving in one direction (down the roof slope).
Leaks are possible when obstructions or damage to the roof causes water to move in more than one direction (sideways along the roof slope for example).
Sloped roofs are roofs with a pitch (slope) greater than 2/12 (meaning a rise of 2 inches for every 12 inches of run).
Western Red Cedar is common in the coastal regions of the Pacific Northwest and the rainforest in the interior of British Columbia.
Extractives found in heartwood cedar distinguish cedars from other softwoods in terms of its resistance to decay caused by insects and fungi.
The Northwest Coast First Nation People have used Western Red Cedar for traditional purposes throughout their history and into present day.
As a roof system, Western Red Cedar Shakes and Shingles stand up well to the harsh demands of the Pacific Northwest climate, making cedar the number one choice for durability and natural beauty.
Hiring a roofing contractor who is capable of designing and installing a roof system in accordance with a manufacture's specific warranty requirements.
The warranty period offered by the shingle manufacturer, whether 30, 40, 50 years or even lifetime, is based on shingle performance when tested under the conditions defined in their installation requirements.
Inadequate and unbalanced soffit to roof ventilation is the most frequently ignored or misunderstood requirement for material warranty.
Shingle manufacturers cannot be held liable if the contractor installing the shingles is not aware or chooses not to install the shingles in accordance with the manufacturer's installation requirements.
We work with several types of metal roofing materials, including copper, galvanized steel, zinc, aluminum and silicon-coated steel.
Copper has been used to protect buildings for thousands of years because of its corrosion resistance, low maintenance and long life performance.
Galvanized steel is a more cost-effective option when compared to a copper roof, but is not as durable.
It requires coatings to resist corrosion and is higher in maintenance.
Zinc, aluminum and silicon-coated steel are more expensive then galvanized steel, but provide corrosion resistance without the reliance of coatings.
