Sun: Heat and the ultraviolet light cause deterioration of the roof over time.
Sun damage is usually worse on south and west facing sides of the building.
Rain: Rainwater can work its way under roofing materials over time.
Water can rot boards, cause the growth of mold or mildew, and can eventually cause damage to other systems such as electrical or insulation.
